Hello! Welcome to the very first post coming at you from Florida Beach Day. We are so excited that you’re here.
Our mission at Florida Beach Day is clear: to be your ultimate guide to the captivating coastal cities of Florida, unveiling their hidden gems and showcasing their most renowned attractions. Whether you’re a native seeking a fresh perspective on your beloved state or a visitor ready to embark on a Floridian adventure, we’ve got you covered.
Boca Beaches hold a special place in my heart, as they played a pivotal role in my move to the Sunshine State in 2021. After years of dreaming about leaving Michigan, I was initially set on the vibrant life of downtown Miami. It’s known for it’s bustling cityscape and picturesque bayfront strolls. However, reality had other plans. Two weeks of tireless apartment hunting led my partner and me to settle in Boca Raton. At that time, the apartment prices here were more budget-friendly compared to Miami. We found a brand-new building in a peaceful location nestled between the east and west sides of Boca. Thus, Boca Beaches became our cherished stomping grounds for our inaugural summer as residents.
Comprising three main beaches—Spanish River, Red Reef Park, and South Beach Park (distinct from Miami’s South Beach)—Boca Beaches have much to offer. There’s also the Boca Inlet beach, a bit farther south, though it’s important to note that it’s not covered by the permit parking deal.
Now, let’s talk about parking. I admit I was a bit perplexed by this system, and it still seems like Boca isn’t all that keen on tourists. A parking pass for Boca Raton residents currently costs $75 per year and grants you unlimited parking year-round at these three main beaches. However, if you’re not a resident or just vacationing here, be prepared to fork over $35 for a one-day pass. While you can freely walk from one beach to another, your car must remain parked in the same lot all day.
I share these details not to discourage you but to ensure you’re well-informed before you visit. (I promise to keep this page updated with current pricing!) If you find yourself in South Florida, we recommend making a day of it at Boca Beaches. Cap off the day with a meal in Mizner Park, Boca’s downtown hub. It’s all about making the most of your trip while keeping an eye on your budget.
Alright let’s break down the beaches.
Spanish River: Spanish River Park, the northernmost of three pristine beaches. This beach offers a safe and enjoyable coastal experience with lifeguards on duty during peak hours. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the park’s scenic trails winding through coastal hammocks, perfect for birdwatching and wildlife observation. Plus, for dog lovers, there’s a designated off-leash area, making it a versatile and welcoming destination for all beachgoers.
South Beach Park: This beach, located in the southernmost part of the city, is an ideal spot for sunrise enthusiasts. It offers a limited parking area where you can conveniently pay by the meter rather than the full daily rate. While you won’t find nature trails here, you’ll discover a stunning new pavilion perched above the parking lot, providing panoramic views of the beach. Occasionally, you might even stumble upon dance classes being held at this picturesque location during certain weekends. It is also a very short walk to The Boca Beach House, which is the perfect laid back breakfast destination.
Red Reef Park: Often considered my top pick among the three, this beach is conveniently situated in the heart of Boca Raton. What truly sets Red Reef Park apart is its captivating artificial reef, a hotspot for snorkeling and underwater enthusiasts. This unique reef offers a chance to marvel at vibrant marine life and stunning coral formations. Additionally, Red Reef Park boasts a fantastic perk – it’s directly across the street from the renowned Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, which is free to visit. Here, you can explore a Sea Turtle Hospital, staffed by passionate volunteers who eagerly share the stories of its residents. You’ll also find a charming aquarium and a delightful butterfly garden. With all these attractions, Red Reef Park is the ultimate destination for a full day of beachside enjoyment.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude for joining us on this sunny journey through Boca Raton’s coastal wonders. Boca Beaches, with their sun-kissed shores, vibrant marine life, and enchanting natural beauty, have left an indelible mark on my Florida adventure.
